I started Hijinks a few years ago as an email listserve to tell people about my own music gigs and the occasional good concert at other venues in Los Angeles. Friends began sending me their friends’ emails and started to request weekly updates regardless of whether I myself had a show planned. Over time it created a network of friends, acquaintances, and industry contacts that I enjoyed maintaining despite the many late nights (often starting after returning home from a bar or concert myself) I spent researching and writing each edition.

I’m really excited about how the properties of the blogging medium can enhance Hijinks. Most importantly, by being able to post their own comments readers can say whether they have or are looking for tickets or a ride to a show, they can write a review of both albums or concerts, or just post a funny or cool link to something they found. In short, more information can be passed on with even less work on my part.

So I hope you all like it and let other people know about it as well. I do still put plenty of time and thought into Hijinks and it really does help validate another sleep-deprived night when I hear someone say thanks.
