A belated intro to this week’s Hijinks (as I’m about to begin researching for the following week) finds two noteworthy festivals of very different types taking place. This past Saturday and Sunday Silverlake hosted another successful Sunset Junction street fair, with rides, games, live music, food, drinks, art, in-store open houses (and bars), and lots of hipsters in full effect. The day afterwards the farflung counterpart to Sunset Junction’s urban bohemia kicked off waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyy out in the Nevadan desert: Burning Man 2006, which runs through the end of Labor Day Weekend.

In related news, scientists have recently stripped Nevada of its planetary status and reclassified it as bumfuckville. And when you’re on the outskirts of a state that’s already incredibly remote, that’s when you know you ain’t in Kansas anymore. Or… hmm. Maybe you are in Kansas.
